Tell me about your The Beginning!

We matched on Hinge, but never met up in person. Then one day, I was on the train on the way into work and I recognised Nathan from his profile photos. He was nibbling away on a muffin and when he got up to get off at his station, he hit his head on the roof. I thought he was so adorable and good looking. I couldn’t stop thinking about him.

Later that day, my friend Gemma said that my horoscope said today was my lucky day and I had to take a risk in love and finance. We bought a lotto ticket, and then late into the evening, I decided to double-text Nathan on Hinge. Our conversation sent sparks flying and we agreed to meet up only a couple of days later.

Our first date was at Dove & Olive in Surry Hills. We agreed to meet there for a few drinks after work. I was so excited to meet him, and then Nathan messaged me about an hour beforehand and said “If either of us aren’t feeling it, let’s just call it”. It enraged me! I was like “Obviously – but now I feel like I’m going to be judged the second I walk into the door!” I convinced myself I didn’t want to go and Gemma assured me she thought it was fair and very mature. I begrudgingly agreed with her and decided to still go.

So, I left work as soon as I could so I could get there early and have some liquid courage. Nathan was already there – even earlier than me. When he turned and looked at me, his eyes nearly fell out of his head – he was like a Looney Tunes character looking at me with heart eyes. Needless to say, we didn’t ‘just call it’ after one drink…!

Nathan got sick after our first date and for two weeks, we messaged. I wondered if he was even interested in meeting up again or if we were just pen pals. Then, to assure me he was sick – he sent me a voice note of him singing Barry White. We finally reunited for the best dates ever. Comedy shows, concerts, lots of laughs and making out.

When and where did you get engaged?

I had been hoping any event or weekend for over a year at this point. I was constantly getting my nails done and reading into any gesture or plans we made. Nathan suggested a spontaneous roadtrip up the coast. Naturally, I was suspicious. I even told Mum who assured me that he wasn’t proposing and I needed to stop getting my hopes up. We got up to Swansea Belmont and it was a stunning weekend. However, my hopes of a proposal faded as we spent too long in Bunnings for ‘van stuff’. Afterwards, we took Bindi to the beach and as we sat on the sand dunes, I turned around and Nathan was on one knee/ I was so shocked that I fell down the dunes onto Bindi. It was chaotic but perfect.

Why did you choose to have a Hazelhurst, Gymea Wedding

Because our family is a bit older and we have some unwell family members, we really wanted something easy that still felt special. We love that Hazel feels like multiple special venues in one place.

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

Making it official in front of our family and friends and then letting loose on the dancefloor!

Top Tips!

I think we’ve been pretty relaxed and have enjoyed the ride. It’s been a nice way to do it!
