Ruby & Chris’ Eaglereach Wedding: Golden Hour Views & Laid-Back Vibes

From the start, I knew Ruby & Chris’ Eaglereach Wedding was going to be something special. Ruby’s maid of honour, Annie, is a mate from my hospitality days, so I had a feeling the crew would bring great vibes—and they totally did.

The day began perfectly. Eaglereach has beautiful cabins just minutes from the venue, perfect for morning prep. Ruby got ready at Twig and Wren Wilderness Retreat, a cabin with stunning views of Paterson Valley and the Barrington Tops. The calm morning gave us time to relax, snap candid shots, and set a chilled tone for the day.

The weather looked iffy in the lead-up, but by the time the wedding rolled around, we had warm sun and clear skies—a total win. The ceremony was heartfelt and lighthearted, just like Ruby and Chris.

Originally, we planned portraits at a public lookout near Mount George, but the view was blocked by trees (classic!). Luckily, we went back to the cabin instead. As the sun set, the golden hour light spilled over the valley, creating some of the day’s most stunning photos.

After the ceremony, the reception was full of heartfelt speeches, good food, and plenty of champagne. When the music started, everyone jumped in—whether dancing, chatting, or just soaking up the atmosphere, the vibe was relaxed and joyful.

If you’re planning an Eaglereach Wedding, you’re in for a treat. The cabins, views, and bushland backdrop make it a versatile and beautiful venue. And Ruby & Chris? They were the perfect match—laid-back, loving, and surrounded by a crew full of legends.

Tell me about your The Beginning!

We met at Bungalow 8 in 2015. Chris was on a bucks and Ruby was on a hens night (separate couple). We hit it off instantly and soon enough made it official. A few weeks later I went to where he lived, he was in Campbelltown at the time and I was travelling from Cronulla, and I watched his cricket game (I clearly liked him if I wanted to sit through that!). We had a few drinks at his place and spent the night talking and listening to RNB music. Our first official date was at Sealevel in Cronulla. He set the fancy dinner bar high and we still love a cheeky fancy dinner here and there.

When and where did you get engaged?

The day after my 29th birthday (14/01/23) our friends we’re coming to the Hunter Valley to visit us so we thought we’d do a hot air balloon ride. None of us had ever done it so myself and my friend Madi organised it. While we were waiting for the hot air balloons to start I remember looking at Chris’ pockets to see if he had a ring box in there haha. He didn’t and so I thought ok no worries it’s not today. Turns out, Madi’s partner Sos had the ring in his pocket! Halfway through the balloon ride Chris asked me to marry him and I said “shut the fuck up” hahah.

Why did you choose to have your wedding at Eaglereach Wilderness Retreat?

We had recently moved to the Hunter Valley area and were looking at what is around us on google maps and saw Eaglereach. We were intrigued and did a little insta stalk of the venue and went for a visit to see it and fell in love with it.

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

Seeing each other dolled up and feeling amazing, getting to marry each other (after being together for 9 years!!!). I think the start of the reception, kicking off with some speeches and a few champas will also be amazing.

Top Tips!

A beautiful friend of mine was in the midst of planning her wedding after we got engaged and, it sounds harsh, but she said to me “no one cares about your day more than you.” This helped me SO much to detach from what other people might think or if they don’t meet the expectations we create in our minds about the day and everything that leads up to it.
