Louise & Ben’s Laid-Back Wedding at Willie the Boatman

From the very beginning, Louise and Ben’s wedding at Willie the Boatman had all the right ingredients: heartfelt moments, a fun crowd, and fairy lights galore. Set in the vibrant heart of Sydney’s Inner West, this laid-back brewery was the perfect spot for their relaxed, laughter-filled day.

Their ceremony flowed straight into an extended canapé hour where guests mingled, grabbed drinks, and hit the photobooth early. Meanwhile, I whisked Louise and Ben away for some portraits—and honestly, these two made my job easy. They were playful, relaxed, and so clearly smitten. Their joy was contagious.

We stayed local for the shoot, making the most of the industrial charm around the venue. With twinkling lights overhead and the brewery’s cool vibe setting the tone, everything felt effortlessly personal. The speeches were warm and funny, the dance floor filled up fast, and the beer kept flowing.

One of the best parts? These legends planned their entire wedding in just three months. Proof that you don’t need a year-long timeline to throw an epic celebration.

If you’re considering a wedding at Willie the Boatman, this one’s your sign to go for it. It’s quirky, cosy, and full of character—just like Louise and Ben.

Tell me about your ‘The Beginning’

“We first met on Tinder where all the best love stories start. Ben sent a photo of a loaf of bread he was proud of baking and we ended up communicating in bread-related puns for ages.

When we finally went on a real life date we had a picnic in Camperdown park. Ben brought along all these homemade pickles, yummy meats and even lactose free cheese for me. I remember all these dogs wanted in on the picnic and we totally embraced it and loved playing with the dogs. Now we have a dog of our own!”

When and where did you get engaged?

“We were travelling in Spain and decided to watch the sunset on one of our last nights in Madrid. We found a park called “Park of the 7 Tits” named after the 7 hills around the park that had views over the city! As we were watching the sunset Ben gave me a big hug and asked if I wanted to get married. I asked “Are you proposing right now?!” and when I realized that was what was happening of course I said yes. We were so excited and decided to celebrate by eating our body weight in churros for dessert.”

What style/theme have you chosen for your Willie the Boatman Wedding?

“The wedding is at a brewery called Willie the Boatman which is laid back, eclectic, and fun so we’ve embraced that with other parts of the styling.”

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

“The vows and having a big party with everyone we love!”

Testimonial

“Imagine your dream wedding photographer – that was Hayley Morgan. Everything was so well organised in the lead up to the wedding. Hayley spent time getting to know us, the style of photos we were after, and even did some research on the venue and all the good spots.

On the day she was super calming, professional and made the whole experience so fun with her bubbly positive energy.
The photos she took were AMAZING and I actually don’t know how she took the candids because I didn’t even notice where she was during the ceremony she was like a photography ninja. Hayley went above and beyond and made our day so special. We can’t reccomend her highly enough.” – Louise & Ben
