Wedding at Bennelong: Renae & Anita’s Iconic Sydney Celebration

Renae and Anita’s wedding at Bennelong was a celebration of great food, iconic views, and the kind of love that just makes sense. Set inside the sails of the Opera House in the City Circle space, their winter long lunch brought together their closest people for a day that felt relaxed, stylish, and uniquely “them.”

These two met at work and stayed mates for years before things naturally shifted into something more. The proposal stories are solid: Anita popped the question over a glass of bubbles outside the Opera House—right as a skywriter started spelling out “marry me” above them (no, it wasn’t planned, but the timing was wild). A few weeks later, Renae set the scene at Bangalay Villas with candles, flowers, and her own proposal. Two yeses, no hesitation.

Their wedding at Bennelong was all about good energy. From the sweeping views over Circular Quay to the incredible food (seriously, it’s Bennelong), the whole day felt like a proper treat—without losing the laid-back vibe they were going for.

Best advice from the couple? Stick together during the day, stay present, and actually enjoy it. Simple, solid, and spot on.

Tell me about your The Beginning!

“We met at work and were friends for a number of years before love blossomed and we realised ‘she is my one’.”

When and where did you get engaged?

“Anita proposed to Renae over a glass of bubbles outside of the Opera House. Not long after she asked, a sky writer posted the words ‘marry me’ in the sky above. It was serendipitous timing and certainly gave us a giggle. Someone paid good money for that sign writing. It was meant to be! A couple of weeks later Renae proposed to Anita on our anniversary at Bangalay Villas at Shoalhaven – with the room set up with a nice surprise of flowers, candles and lots of love on their arrival!”

Why did you choose to have your wedding at Bennelong, Sydney Opera House?

“We wanted a city wedding and were going for the vibe of a winter luxury, long lunch. We chose Bennelong because the food and view is the best. It is iconic Sydney! And such a special treat for our closest loved ones to share with us.”

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

“Anita: Marrying the love of my life!””

“Renae: Celebrating our amazing love! Indulging in the whole experience and taking it in together! Being able to legitimately call Anita ‘my wife’!”
